A new machine to test Covid-19 in Siem Reap​

Minister of Health Mam Bunheng said the ministry will use Covid-19 detection machines in Siem Reap province by the early of July and will operate other 83 machines in some other provinces in 64 locations.

Saying during an inauguration cermemony of the new head of National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control on 25 June 2020, Minister Bunheng stated that, “after some countries had used Xpert MTB/RIF, a machine which can identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), to test covid-19 and found out that it is effective. Therefore, we possess this machine and we can operate it on trial in Siem Ream province.”

“We are training our medical staff in technical aspects in order to implement this,” said Mr. Bunheng.

“In an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus in our communities and the second wave of Covid-19, we are trying our best to take actions on border checkpoints because we have seen that most are imported cases. We hurriedly send them to hospital and trace and quarantine those in contact with the patients,” he added.

Cambodia has tested approximately 30,000 people, including the patients and those in contact with them, since January.
