Kiri Sour Dairy Farm Will Produce 10,000 Liters Of Fresh Milk Daily By The End Of 2020
By the end of 2020, Kiri Sour dairy farm in Takeo province will have the capacity to produce 10,000 liters of fresh milk per day to meet the local demands.
Mr. Chhor Rithy, CEO of Khmer Fresh Milk Co., Ltd. and also the farm operator, noted that his farm brought 550 world-class Holstein heifers from Australia to Cambodia for milk to supply the domestic market.
His farm covers an area of 300 hectares, more than 200 hectares of which is used for fodder crops such as Stylo grass, Mombasa, and corn, and we have added bran, soy flour to mix for the cows.
Currently, each cow can produce 25 to 30 liters of milk per day, meaning that the farm can harvest a stunning quantity of 10,000 liters of milk per day by the end of 2020.
Mr. Chhor Rithy emphasized that health is an utmost concern, and therefore his farm mainly focuses on producing fresh and good quality milk for consumption.
He later added: “We believe that we are competent enough given the modernization of our machines and the freshness of our milk. Our fresh and pure milk can be refrigerated at 4℃ for 2 to 3 weeks. Compared to our products, imported milk, especially from Thailand, takes longer to arrive. It takes one to two days to transport - not to mention potential refrigeration issues. Our farm is close to Phnom Tamao and Phnom Penh market, meaning that our milk will be transported in one hour or slightly a bit over. Based on our milk freshness and modern machines, I believe we can compete in the milk market.”
Mr. Chhor Rithy envisioned training locals and, and offering agricultural students to come and learn on his farm about the techniques of raising dairy cows, care, and processing of dairy products. He has helped create job opportunities for the people in the area by planting grass and corn for sale on his farm.
