Siem Reap Authority Urges Farmers to Increase Safe Vegetable Production​



In the promotion program and exhibition of vegetable products on the morning of July 25, 2020, Mr.Nak Nerun, the Deputy Governor of Siem Reap, announced that a ‘Safe Vegetable’ market is organized to assist local farmers. Mr. Nek Nerun strongly encouraged local farmers to raise the production of vegetables to reduce imports. 

 This market will be another smallholder agricultural market promotion project, implemented by the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Agriculture. It aims to promote the competitiveness of the local produce, focusing mainly on unprocessed quality and known sources of production. The products will be retailed every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm at the Royal Palace Park in Siem Reap. 

As noted by Mr. Phoeun Kimly, Director of Siem Reap Provincial Department of Commerce, all relevant institutions are currently working to make this Safe Vegetable market run smoother, focusing principally on market supply, competitive price, and quality.

Mr. Tea Keam Soth, director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, said the Safe Vegetable market has farmers from five districts: Puok, Banteay Srei, Sot Nikum, Prasat Bakong, and Krong Siem Reap. He also stressed that the Safe Vegetable market is essential in gaining the trust of the consumers as well as promoting local produce that has qualified standardized hygienic levels. Simultaneously, the Department of Commerce and Agriculture will assist in stabilizing the market and inspecting the qualifications of the produce, accordingly.
