Cambodia To Become a Leading Rice Supplier
A report of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) predicts that in the next decade, Cambodia will join the leading suppliers of rice in the world.
India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Pakistan are forecasted to hold their leading role as rice suppliers. They will continue to export higher quality rice with a large volume.
FAO expects that the top five exporters, such as India, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, and the United States, will see a decrease in their export shares.
Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar will start to adopt improved agricultural techniques that will raise rice productivity. Also, FAO expects that rice shipments by Cambodia and Myanmar will almost double from about 4 million tonnes this year to 7 million tonnes by 2029.
With this, Global rice trade will grow 2.8 percent with volumes with a jump from 15 million tonnes to 62 million tonnes in the next decade.
